Tough Love

I haven't been very good lately. I wouldn't say I've been *bad* - it's not like I'm chain-eating pizza and ice cream. I just haven't been as motivated and this week, for the first time, I've fallen out of the habit of journaling everything I eat. Part of it is that my home computer is being difficult, part of it is lower motivation. Sigh.

But, I had a great conversation with a coworker this morning. She herself just decided she wants to get serious about losing weight, and this is a take-charge woman who does what she says. She's a mother herself and is very good at lecturing people the way a Mom does, and she gave me a little figurative kick in the pants to try and be better myself. She's being very hard core about this, meeting with a dietician and making the real changes needed to eat healthier. It was pretty inspiring, actually.

So today I'm trying to use her as my example. When I woke up this morning, I was really craving Indian food and thought "Maybe I'll just order take-out tonight." That would mean a really huge order of fatty, super carb-loaded food. After I had this conversation, though, I decided to feed my craving for curry by getting the Spinach Curry at Teaism for lunch. Sure, it was a big portion and wasn't exactly a fruit salad, but it means now I have no desire to order Indian tonight. I still haven't decided what I want for dinner -- but maybe I'll compromise and order sushi instead. Still the fun of takeout, but so much better for me!

Having someone at work who is watching what they eat really helps. In fact, I think about four (out of ten) of my coworkers are on some sort of plan.

I hear you doll. I have been hitting that road as well. One thing my meeting leader hits on regularly is that you have to let this work. Believe that it works. I find, 48lbs later, that I am sometimes still waiting for this to fail. Clearly it isn't, but you get in a slump, and sick of it, it just gets hard. I've found that changing things up a bit helped, and also looking to others for inspiration. I like the people they showcase on the website who reached their goal, it means a lot to me. I've actually inspired women at my office, a bunch are starting to go to WW too.

For me that has ups and downs. I love that other people want to help themselves and think that I am the one showing them it can be done...However, I am VERY competitive and I know this can't be about being competitive with other people, it's very individual and personal and the person I'm competing with is me! Its sometimes hard to stay in that mindset.

Anywho, this is a post in and of itself. I am thrilled for you, you're doing great and keep up the good work! Smooches

Does Weight Watchers provide an online food diary system for you? I use fitday.com. It's free and works well. Recording everything I eat definately helps me keep it under control.
Maybe you can balance it out the extra calories by going on some long walks. The weather is supposed to be fuddy-duddy for the next week though. Let me know if you ever need a NW DC walking buddy.

Lady B: Yes, it's always good to have a buddy to help keep you straight during the day.

Blue Dog: Well, I'm not quite back on track yet, but getting there. Thanks.

PIP: You're such an inspiration, you really have done a great job. And I totally agree with everything you said - I do keep expecting to fail, so I can just go back to doing whatever the heck bad stuff I want. But since I can go back on plan easily even after slipping, it's like it doesn't really allow you to fail. And that's a good thing.

DJ: Thanks. I just might want a walking buddy this spring!
